Tyri could smell the barbeque as soon as he got out of his car. One thing about JaMar, he was very good at barbequing. Tyri sniffed the air; hickory-flavored barbeque sauce, his favorite. JaMar opened the door before Tyri got a chance to knock on it.

“Hey, Tyri. I’m glad you could make it.” Both men gave each other dap.

“Glad to be here. We haven’t been hanging out lately. I don’t want to lose touch.”

“That’ll never happen, Tyri.” Both men began walking toward the kitchen. Pasta salad, potato salad, string beans and potatoes, apple pie and chocolate cake covered the dining room table.

“I know you did the barbequing JaMar, but who did the rest?”

JaMar smiled at Tyri’s question and not a regular smile. It was a smile only someone head over heels in love would have on their face.

“I know that look, man.”

“What are you talking about, Tyri?” JaMar responded, feigning innocence.

“You know what I’m talking about. Who is she?” JaMar continued to grin like a schoolboy.

“La’Sheena Douglas. And she’s definitely the one. The complete package. Beautiful, intelligent, educated, God-fearing, and I can’t wait for you meet her. And her friend.”

Friend? Oh yeah, the mystery lady. Tyri had almost forgotten the reason JaMar had set up this get-together.

“You’re not going to believe what happened to me at work today, man.” Tyri turned to his childhood friend with concern.

“You didn’t get fired, did you?”

“No, I didn’t. But my boss, Saundra Ashford, is expanding her firm and offered me a promotion.” Tyri breathed a sigh of relief.

“That’s great, JaMar. This get together has turned into a celebration. But why are you acting like it’s a bad thing?”

JaMar went to the refrigerator, got two beers, and handed one to Tyri.

“Getting the promotion depends on, in her words, ‘giving her a night of pleasure’. If I’m going to get a promotion, it’s going to be because I earned it.”

Tyri took a sip of beer before responding.

“Quite understandable. In this day and age, all these sexual harassment lawsuits going around, it’d be in your best interests to protect yourself. Just look at Bill Cosby. Whether the allegations are true or not, why did these women wait until Bill got old before coming forward?

Bill Cosby had a squeaky-clean image. And then to be smeared by so many women.”

“Who knows, man? But I will be heeding your advice and protect myself. I’m not getting caught in a lawsuit, no matter how fine the woman is,” JaMar stated nonchalantly.

“You say she’s fine. So, obviously, you’ve been checking her out.”

JaMar began to blush.

“Yes. But only vaguely. Saundra is a very attractive older woman. But I don’t think I’m ready for a cougar. Besides, La’Sheena is more than enough woman for me.”

Vaguely, my ass! This holier than thou nigga knows damn well he’s been lusting after that woman. Tyri began to chuckle.

“I know what you’re thinking, Tyri. I haven’t done anything inappropriate.”

“I didn’t say you did, JaMar.” Tyri gave JaMar a playful shove.

“C’mon, man. I’m going to check on this barbeque.
